Ten Habits Of An Enriched Relationship

In MBCT for Couples, you and your partner learn to mindfully notice nuances in your urges, thoughts, emotions and behaviors so you both can respond more caringly to whatever the other one serves. Instead of reacting out of habit, or on autopilot, you practice (and practice and practice again) cultivating new habits. You experience how it is to notice “what is” now and create space to collect your thoughts – often just a moment or two -- so you can respond effectively and lovingly.

In MBCT for Couples, you and your partner strengthen the foundations of your relationship. You learn and practice present moment mindfulness combined with practical skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).  With daily practice, this combination of increasing awareness and more effective skills enable you to cultivate and strengthen 10 habits:

  • Share what you think and feel more deeply with greater confidence

  • Nurture daily rituals that ground your relationship in the present moment

  • Notice each other’s strengths more than the flaws

  • Develop the capacity not to be bothered by the small stuff

  • Accept what is rather than expecting perfection (whatever that is)

  • Create space to think before you say or do something hurtful

  • Understand your patterns of interaction that cause you both to suffer

  • Practice letting go of the past and forgiveness

  • Increase awareness of how your thoughts, core beliefs, emotions and micro-behaviors affect your interactions

  • Strengthen compassion for yourself, your partner, and others
