Hola! My name is Christina, and I consider it an honor to be able to meet you. I strongly believe that everyone – no matter what- is valued and so very important. And that’s one reason why I’m here at St. Louis DBT: because you matter! But my journey didn’t begin here in St. Louis. I grew up in Iowa, did extensive international volunteer work in Japan and Ecuador, taught high school Spanish for a few years, and now, I’m in St. Louis!
During my travels, studies, and career, I was continually touched by the struggles and successes of those around me. Many of my students, friends, and colleagues wrestled with suicidal ideation, debilitating thoughts of incompetence, stifling anxiety, and other manifestations of mental illness.
While I love teaching how to conjugate verbs (ask me about my -AR verb rap sometime), I was acutely aware that at the end of the day a homework assignment wasn’t nearly as important as the life of a student. I recognized that I wanted to help others more directly with their mental health challenges and decided to become a therapist. My experiences working with diverse individuals from around the globe have prepared me well to pursue my MSW at Washington University.
I’m currently in my final year of my master’s program and am learning from some of the most prestigious counselors in the state. I’m excited to meet you and to help you develop the tools that you need to keep building your life worth living…because you matter!
